The Portuguese Communist Party considered that the removal of heavy vehicles from VCI is a necessary measure, but warned that it does not completely solve the problem. This Tuesday marks the first day of application of the prohibition of heavy vehicles without destination to the cities of Porto or Vila Nova de Gaia on the Inner Ring Road.
The measure aims to limit the circulation of trucks and other heavy vehicles that do not have these two cities as their destination, seeking to reduce traffic and associated problems on the main circular route of Greater Porto.
PCP recognizes the relevance of the initiative, but maintains that the prohibition does not address the totality of mobility and infrastructure problems in the region. The party understands that more comprehensive solutions are needed to resolve the structural issues of circulation in Porto and Gaia.
The implementation of this restriction comes in a context of growing pressure on VCI, which is daily used by thousands of vehicles, including a significant proportion of heavy vehicles in transit. The authorities expect the measure to contribute to improving mobility conditions in the metropolitan area.
