The rain and showers forecast for Wednesday, September 16, should concentrate mainly during the night and morning, affecting mainly the archipelagos of the Azores and Madeira, while the Portuguese mainland will have no precipitation. According to the forecast from the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and the Atmosphere (IPMA), the three groups of the Azores will have precipitation in the early hours of the day, with the Western group, composed of the islands of Flores and Corvo, expected to have showers during the night and morning, with very cloudy sky and interspersed clear spells, east wind between 10 and 30 km/h.
In the Central group of the Azores, which includes the islands of Terceira, Graciosa, São Jorge, Pico and Faial, the forecast is similar, with periods of very cloudy sky, clear spells and showers during the night and morning. The east wind will start by blowing between 20 and 30 km/h, later weakening to values between 10 and 20 km/h. In the Eastern group, formed by São Miguel and Santa Maria, IPMA forecasts periods of light rain or drizzle during the night and morning, with very cloudy sky and clear spells from the afternoon, northeast wind between 20 and 40 km/h with gusts up to 50 km/h.
In Madeira, the possibility of rain appears later and is limited to the highlands, with little cloud, increase of cloudiness from the afternoon and possibility of weak showers at the end of the day. A small drop in temperature is also expected, especially the maximum, and northeast wind sometimes strong, up to 40 km/h, at the eastern and western extremes of the island and in the highlands.
On the Portuguese mainland, the sky should be little cloudy or clear, with temporarily more clouds in the Centre and South until mid-morning and high cloudiness from the afternoon, with no precipitation forecast. The highlight will be the wind, with gusts up to 65 km/h on the western coastal strip and in the highlands. A small drop in minimum temperature and a drop in maximum temperature in the interior of the North and Centre are also forecast.
