Meteorological autumn has already begun and astronomical autumn is at the door, but the heat shows no signs of letting up in Portugal. The ECMWF (European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts) maps show the week of September 21-28 painted in red, indicating abnormally warm temperatures across the entire Portuguese territory.
ECMWF forecasts point to temperature deviations that could reach +6°C compared to normal values for this time of year. Mainland Portugal appears practically entirely covered by significant positive thermal anomalies, with temperatures persistently above normal throughout the entire week.
The end of September may maintain a typically summery environment, with temperatures above 30°C across much of the territory. The month is heading toward its end, but the forecasted values continue to be far from presenting a typically autumnal pattern, prolonging the heat until the last days of September.
