Four municipalities in the Viseu district are today at maximum risk of rural fire, according to the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and the Atmosphere (IPMA). The municipalities covered are São João da Pesqueira, Moimenta da Beira, Tabuaço and Armamar.
These four municipalities are part of a list of about 60 municipalities in ten districts of mainland Portugal that have been classified with the maximum level of danger of rural fire.
The maximum risk is determined by IPMA based on the meteorological and atmospheric conditions of each region. This classification implies an extremely high risk of fire occurrence and spread in the covered areas.
