An online petition against the Volta system, which manages the collection and refund of packaging in Portugal, has already exceeded 37 thousand signatories. The initiative calls for the immediate suspension of this deposit and refund packaging system.
The petition also advocates for an independent audit of the model that is currently in operation. The signatories have expressed dissatisfaction with the way the system has been operating since its implementation.
The Volta system was created to encourage packaging recycling, allowing consumers to return bottles and cans at specific points, receiving a refund in return. However, the petition suggests there are significant problems in the way the model has been managed.
The growing number of signatures reflects the growing public scrutiny over the effectiveness and transparency of the packaging management system in Portugal.
