Moon Capital Fund Takes Stake in Olimec to Accelerate Internationalization

Jornal Económico15 September 2026 at 15:16

The Moon Capital Fund acquired a minority stake in Portuguese company Olimec, specialized in solutions for waste collection and urban cleaning. The operation took place in the year the company celebrates a decade of activity, but the investment value was not disclosed.

Olimec, based in Maia, was founded in 2016 by Juliana Oliveira and Luís Tavares. The company develops, commercializes and implements waste collection and urban cleaning equipment for municipalities, public entities and private operators, combining the representation and commercialization of equipment with its own production capacity and technical assistance.

The operation aims to support and accelerate the company's international expansion, after ten years focused on the domestic market. The CEO, Juliana Oliveira, stated that the entry of the new shareholder allows Olimec to take this step "in a more structured and ambitious way," with the current management team and operational strategy remaining unchanged.

The investment falls under the strategy of Moon Capital – Women Empowerment Fund, a venture capital fund founded by Sílvia Mota and Ana Sá Ribeiro, with the goal of financing and supporting women-led projects.

Why this matters

The operation represents a strategic shift for Olimec, which for a decade focused exclusively on the domestic market and now can accelerate its international expansion. Portuguese municipalities, public entities and private operators that already use Olimec's equipment may benefit from a more financially robust company. The investment comes from a fund dedicated to women-led projects, reinforcing the dynamics of support for female entrepreneurship in Portugal.
