Mário Augusto brings cinema history to the Municipal Library

Alto Minho TV15 September 2026 at 09:26

Journalist and film critic Mário Augusto will present his book "Como se Fosse um Romance: A Mais Curiosa História do Cinema" on September 26th at 6:00 PM at the Municipal Library of Caminha. The session is part of the cycle "A Book, A Conversation and Sometimes A Film", promoted by the Friends of the Caminha Library Network.

In the work, Mário Augusto covers approximately 125 years of cinema, from the invention of the first projectors to the most recent technological innovations. The book brings together curious episodes, behind-the-scenes stories, conflicts, passions and decisive moments that helped transform the film industry, without taking an exclusively technical approach.

The presentation will be conducted by Fontainhas Fernandes, who will lead the conversation with the author. The meeting aims to address not only the evolution of cinema and the influence of the seventh art on contemporary society, but also themes such as the relationship with stars, marketing, funding and the challenges currently posed by the growth of streaming platforms.

The initiative is part of the regular programming of the Municipal Library of Caminha dedicated to the promotion of reading, seeking to bring authors and readers together and create spaces for reflection around literature and cinematic art.

Why this matters

Readers in Caminha and the Alto Minho region have the opportunity to attend a free session with a renowned film critic, getting to know firsthand a work that traces the evolution of cinema over more than a century. The initiative is part of the Municipal Library's cultural programming, contributing to the promotion of reading and to bringing authors and the local public closer together.
