Archaeological campaign in the municipality of Mértola comes to an end

The sixth archaeological excavation campaign in the area of Cerca das Alcarias, in the village of Mesquita, in the municipality of Mértola, ended on September 15. The work took place between September 1 and 15, as part of the IACAM project, scientifically coordinated by Maria de Fátima Palma, from the Archaeological Camp of Mértola, and Bilal Sarr, from the University of Granada, with support from the town council. The international team of researchers and students from Portugal and Spain focused on sectors II and III, with the aim of understanding the residential structures of the Islamic period in a rural context, and also shared the first results with the local community.
