The rate of students who consume fruit and vegetables daily rose from 75.9% to 85.3% during the 2024/2025 school year, representing a growth of almost ten percentage points.
The data was revealed by APCOI, the Portuguese Association against Childhood Obesity, which coordinates the initiative. The monitoring study was developed by the Institute of Environmental Health of the Faculty of Medicine, which monitors the project's results in participating schools.
The "Fruit Heroes" project aims to promote healthy eating habits among children and young people of school age, encouraging regular consumption of fruits and vegetables. The results achieved demonstrate the positive impact that food education programs can have on students' diets.
