Nautical Center at Azibo opens its doors to the public

A Voz de Trás-os-Montes14 September 2026 at 22:05

The Nautical Center at Azibo, located in the Protected Landscape of the Azibo Reservoir and integrated into the Nautical Station of Macedo de Cavaleiros, is now for the first time making regular programming available to the public. The initiative aims to bring the community closer to this space and promote a more continuous relationship with Azibo, allowing this natural resource to be enjoyed throughout the entire year, beyond the traditional beach season.

The Mayor of Macedo de Cavaleiros, Sérgio Borges, stated that this new dynamic represents an investment in bringing the Nautical Center closer to the community and in creating new opportunities for sports practice. The municipality intends to strengthen the nautical offering at Azibo, taking advantage of this body of water in all seasons.

The new programming includes two offerings aimed at different audiences. Every third Saturday of the month, starting September 19th between 9:30 AM and 1:00 PM, the Nautical Center will be open to the entire population to learn about and try nautical activities such as sailing and kayaking. Starting in October, on Wednesdays between 2:30 PM and 4:30 PM, an offering will be available for young people in the municipality, between 8 and 14 years old.

Registrations for these activities are available on the Macedo de Cavaleiros Municipality website. With this programming, the municipality intends to give the Nautical Center a new dynamic, enhancing its potential as a space for learning, discovery, sports practice and leisure.

Why this matters

Residents of Macedo de Cavaleiros now have regular access to free or low-cost nautical sports, benefiting especially children and young people. The initiative transforms Azibo from a seasonal beach destination into a space for leisure and sport throughout the year, also enhancing the tourism and sports development of the Trás-os-Montes region.
