Manoella Duarte, the wife of former Rio state deputy Rodrigo Bacellar, publicly criticized her husband's conditions at the Federal Penitentiary of Mossoró, in Rio Grande do Norte, where he has been serving time since July. The allegations were made this Monday in a long post on the businesswoman's personal profile, reproduced by the g1 portal.
Duarte claims the cell "has no fan" and that Bacellar "takes baths using a cup." She also reports that the former deputy "sleeps with soap on his body so mosquitoes don't come near" and shows "marks from handcuffs on his body."
The ex-deputy's wife said she is a private person and had never exposed her personal life, but decided to speak after two months without being able to visit her husband. According to her, last Thursday, when she saw him again, she found conditions that no longer allow her to remain silent.
Rodrigo Bacellar was president of the Rio de Janeiro State Assembly. Manoella Duarte's post comes amid controversy about detention conditions in maximum security federal prisons in Brazil.
