The president of the Portuguese Environment Agency (APA), Nuno Lacasta, challenged the municipality of Bragança to create the region's first river beach, taking advantage of the Fervença river. The statement was made this Monday during a visit or event related to environmental management in the area.
The official highlighted that it is "fundamental to improve the water quality" of the Fervença river for the project to move forward. This improvement in water quality emerges as an essential condition for the river beach to function according to the required safety and health standards.
The challenge launched by APA represents an opportunity for the municipality of Bragança to develop a new tourist and leisure facility that could attract visitors and boost the local economy. River beaches are increasingly sought after as alternatives to sea beaches, especially in inland regions.
The Fervença river, which crosses Bragança, could thus become a reference tourist attraction if the necessary water quality conditions for recreational swimming use are guaranteed.
