Motorcyclist shot in Niterói: 'victim was stopped with hands raised when police officer shot,' says witness

extra14 September 2026 at 19:55

A witness provided testimony at the Niterói, São Gonçalo and Itaboraí Homicide Delegation (DHNSGI) about the approach that resulted in the shooting of pizzaiolo Danilo Jander Francisco Alves, 26 years old, on Saturday night in the neighborhood of Icaraí, in Niterói, in the Greater Rio area. Danilo was hit by a gunshot to the head and his health condition is serious.

According to the witness's account, two police officers from the Segurança Presente program — which has been under the command of the Military Police Secretariat for six months — were on two motorcycles when they approached a red motorcycle driven by Danilo. The witness stated that the pizzaiolo was already stopped with his motorcycle and with his hands raised when one of the officers used pepper spray.

After the use of pepper spray, another officer fired a shot that hit Danilo in the head. The case is being investigated by DHNSGI, which heard the testimony of an eyewitness to the facts. Segurança Presente, a program that was previously linked to the State Civil Police Secretariat, has been under the command of the Military Police Secretariat for six months.

Why this matters

Residents of Niterói and the Greater Rio area are directly affected by this case of a police approach that resulted in a gunshot to the head of a 26-year-old pizzaiolo. The case raises questions about the conduct of agents from the Segurança Presente program, which has been under the command of the Military Police Secretariat for six months. The DHNSGI investigation has security camera footage that may clarify what actually happened during the approach.
