A children's birthday party with more than 80 guests ended at the Tropicaña restaurant in Orro, near A Coruña, in Galicia, Spain, with a debt of around 7,000 euros unpaid. The owner of the venue, Carol Sao Luis, filed a complaint with the authorities after the organizer left the premises without settling the outstanding amount.
The reservation was made at the beginning of August by a woman who wanted to celebrate her daughter's fifth birthday with a large-scale party. The order included seafood, grilled meat, cakes, appetizers, an open bar, inflatables for the children, and personalized bottles. The owner requested a 500 euro deposit, which was paid in advance.
According to the business owner's version, problems arose when it came time to settle the bill. The birthday girl's mother explained that she had argued with her partner, who was responsible for payment, and that she had no money available at that moment, promising to settle the debt during the night. While the owner was talking to her husband, the approximately 40 people who were still at the restaurant left, including the organizer.
The restaurant owner contacted the client again via WhatsApp and warned that she would resort to the authorities. The woman responded that the restaurant had not provided all the agreed services. The owner decided to formalize the complaint, highlighting the impact that a default of this magnitude represents for a family business. The case was reported by La Voz de Galicia newspaper and the Atlas agency on September 1.
