O EXTRA heard from one of the parents who witnessed the sharing of lancets during a science fair at Colégio Tamandaré, in Recreio dos Bandeirantes, in the Southwest Zone of Rio de Janeiro. The event involved a project about glucose, insulin and diabetes, with equipment such as pens and blood glucose meters displayed on a table.
The father said he approached the booth and noticed that many children were gathering around the project. He took a few steps back while his daughter continued watching the presentation. It was at that moment that he realized something was wrong.
After the school's notification about the incident, the father described feeling great despair upon discovering that his daughter had been pierced by a reused lancet. The girl will have to undergo a 28-day preventive treatment as a safety measure.
