A family of Bolivian immigrants died in the collapse of a 12-story building this Saturday (12), in São Paulo. The tragedy left six dead in total. The family had moved to the property exactly one month ago, completing a month of residence on the 10th.
The Bolivian consulate is assisting with documentation so that relatives can say goodbye to the bodies in their homeland. Patricia Vega, a lawyer hired by the Bolivian consulate, stated that the victims have already been identified.
The building had been the target of City Hall measures for years, and construction had been padlocked for proceeding without the necessary permit. However, despite the court order, work continued at the site.
The tragedy was only not worse because the father of the family and one of his children, 13 years old, had left the building and spent the night in another property. Police arrested the partner of the construction company responsible for the work.
