Lagoa Académico Clube won the Algarve Handball Association Super Cup in senior men's handball by defeating Casa da Cultura de Loulé 33-19 on 13 September at the Albufeira Basic and Secondary School Pavilion. The Lagoa team confirmed their superiority by finishing the match with a 14-goal advantage, thus opening the new season with the conquest of a regional title.

The competition was part of the Albufeira European City of Sport programme and marked the start of the 2026/2027 season. The event was attended by the Vice-President of Albufeira Municipal Council, Jorge Carmo, and was organised by the Algarve Handball Association with the support of the municipality.

The Super Cup programme continues on 19 and 20 September, again at the same pavilion, with four trophies to be contested in the youth categories. On Saturday, 19 September, the Under-16 finals take place, with the women's match at 4:00 PM and the men's at 6:00 PM. On Sunday, 20 September, it will be the turn of the Under-18 category, with the women's final at 4:00 PM and the men's at 6:00 PM.

The upcoming matches remain open to the community, allowing spectators to follow the young talents of Algarve handball youth development in an initiative that aims to contribute to the development and promotion of the sport in the region.
