São Pedro do Sul Wants to Join Government Pilot Project for Wild Boar Control

Jornal do Centro14 September 2026 at 15:39

São Pedro do Sul is claiming to join the pilot project announced by the Government for controlling the wild boar population. The municipality argues that it meets the conditions to participate in the experimental phase, given the work already carried out in coordination with the hunting associations, hunters, and farmers of the municipality. The request was sent to the Minister of Agriculture and the Sea, José Manuel Fernandes, requesting formal integration into the project, information on the technical criteria for selecting territories, and a working meeting with the Ministry and the Institute for Nature Conservation and Forests.

In 2026, the municipality supported 14 hunting associations with co-financing between 500 and 3,000 euros per entity, through a measure aimed at strengthening hunting activity and controlling the wild boar population. The support covered different legally permitted forms of hunting, the direct participation of hunters, the creation and maintenance of cultivation strips, feeders and ponds, as well as other actions for managing hunting zones.

The measure came after meetings with the municipality's associations, in which the damages caused by wild boar and the conditions necessary to make control actions more effective were identified. The municipality is now preparing to repeat the support, intending to integrate it into the Municipal Regulation for Rural Development Support to ensure continuity of the initiative.

The Minister of Agriculture and the Sea recently announced that the Government is preparing a pilot project that provides financial compensation for each wild boar killed in areas with excessive populations. According to the municipality, it would not be understandable for a municipality with 14 already mobilized associations and concrete measures to be left out of a national project with the same objectives.

Why this matters

Readers in the São Pedro do Sul region directly benefit from this claim, as integration into the pilot project could guarantee additional funding for wild boar control that already affects agricultural crops and local hunting zones. The measure follows the recent announcement by the Government of a pilot program with compensation for each wild boar killed, and municipalities that have already developed their own responses want to ensure they are not left out of national policies.

Carneiro admits inquiry commission into accumulated problems in Education

The PS leader, Pedro Nuno Santos, admitted the possibility of creating an inquiry commission into the problems in Education, criticizing the minister in charge for having "dismantled" DGEstE and for now meeting with school directors to resolve the issue of unplaced students. Pedro Nuno Santos considered that these solutions should have been found during the summer, in preparation for the start of the school year, and not when the problems are already manifesting.

Flavio asks Dino for full lifting of secrecy in Dark Horse case

Senator Flavio Bolsonaro asked STF Minister Flavio Dino for the complete lifting of secrecy on the case files regarding the financing of the film "Dark Horse," which tells the story of former President Jair Bolsonaro. The defense argues that the partial disclosure determined by the minister creates an "incomplete photograph" of the investigation and may fuel selective versions of the case. The request involves two petitions pending at the Court: Petition 16,669, from which part of the material has already been released, and Petition 16,070, which originated the case and remains under secrecy.

"We were right": Latvian prime minister says EU now heeds Baltic warnings about Russia

The Latvian prime minister, Evika Siliņa, stated that the Baltic countries were right to warn the EU about the Russian threat, emphasizing that their fear of attacks on Europe stems from their historical experience of Soviet occupation. In an interview with the EFE news agency, Siliņa argued that the Baltic nations "know the tricks" of Moscow and that they knew Russia "would show strength" as an aggressor. The Latvian leader considered that the EU has finally started to pay attention to Baltic warnings, at a time when the war in Ukraine continues to worry Europe's eastern borders.
