Miguel Guimarães, MP and deputy leader of the PSD parliamentary group, announced that the party will resume proposals to stop improper access to the National Health Service. The parliamentarian guarantees that these measures will be re-presented with the objective of combating what it considers to be health tourism in Portugal.
The measures in question had been previously approved, but the dissolution of the Assembly of the Republic halted the entire legislative process. With the new composition of parliament, the PSD intends to give new life to these initiatives.
Miguel Guimarães underscores the urgency of this issue, defending that the situation "has to end". The social-democratic party positions itself as a critic of the way foreigners access the SNS without meeting the established criteria.
