Quaest: Flavio's advance worries Lula's inner circle and reflects crisis in the STF and economic scenario, campaigns evaluate

The new round of the Quaest survey, released on Monday, shows for the first time Senator Flavio Bolsonaro (PL) with a numerical advantage over President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) in a second-round scenario, with 42% against 40%. Both campaigns evaluate that the result reflects the ongoing crisis in the Supreme Federal Court (STF) and the dissatisfaction of part of the population with the economic scenario.

The Southeast region concentrates the largest part of the Brazilian electorate and is where Flavio opened the largest advantage, appearing with 47% against 31% of Lula in the second round. Interlocutors of the PL candidate attribute the performance in the region especially to the weight of São Paulo and the platform of Governor Tarcísio de Freitas (Republicanos), favorite for re-election.

The result should also intensify the dispute for the electorate of the Southeast, according to campaign evaluations.

Why this matters

The Quaest survey reveals a significant change in the Brazilian electoral scenario, with Flavio Bolsonaro overtaking Lula for the first time in a second round. This directly affects the plans of the federal government and may redefine campaign strategies in the Southeast region, which concentrates the largest part of the country's electorate.
