Guimarães receives on Tuesday a national debate on economy, competitiveness and green transition, promoted by the Municipality of Guimarães in partnership with Expresso and SIC Notícias. The meeting is part of the programming of Guimarães 26 – European Green Capital and the European project A+CLASS – Alliance for Climate Leadership, funded by the NetZeroCities program of the European Union. The initiative brings together representatives of companies, institutions, universities and specialists to reflect on topics such as competitiveness, productivity, talent, innovation, technological transformation, energy, decarbonization, internationalization and investment attraction.
The organization advocates that the transition to a low-carbon economy should be seen not only as an environmental challenge, but also as an opportunity for economic, technological and energy transformation. The goal is to discuss how these changes can strengthen the innovation capacity of companies and contribute to a more sustainable territory.
The program kicks off with welcomes from the president of the Municipality of Guimarães, Ricardo Araújo, and the presentation of the study "The economy of Guimarães: trajectory, current state and destination". The central moment of the afternoon will be the roundtable "The next economy", with the participation of Ricardo Araújo, University of Minho Economics professor João Cerejeira, Complear co-founder Célia Cruz, executive director of the UT Austin Portugal Program Miguel Rodrigues, and Joana Santos Silva from Católica Lisbon. At 4:30 PM, the Green Academy project will be presented by Susana Costa, from the Landscape Laboratory.
The closing is scheduled for 4:45 PM and will be conducted by the Secretary of State for the Economy, João Rui Ferreira, with moderation by SIC journalist Cristina Freitas.
