319 years of history: Estremoz hosts RC3 Military Anniversary Ceremonies on Tuesday

Rádio Campanário13 September 2026 at 16:16

The Cavalry Regiment No. 3 (RC3) celebrates on September 15 its 319 years of existence, a date that marks over three centuries of service, dedication, and loyalty to Portugal and the Estremoz community. Since its creation, the RC3 has held a prominent place as a symbol of military prestige, maintaining a close connection to the municipality.

The official military ceremonies will take place on September 15, at 8:30 PM, near the Estremoz City Hall. The ceremony will also be a tribute to all military personnel who, over the years, contributed to the RC3's mission.

The celebrations continue between September 16 and 19 with an exhibition at Parada MACONTENE at RC3, titled "From the Horse to the LEOPARD 2A6 Battle Tank in an Operational Theater." The exhibition will be open to the public daily, between 9:00 AM and 5:00 PM.

Over 319 years of history, the RC3 has built a deep connection to Portugal and, particularly, to Estremoz, where the Regiment found its home. The ceremony is open to the public.

Why this matters

Readers from Estremoz and the region can participate in the free ceremonies and exhibition that shows the historical evolution of the regiment. The occasion allows the local community to pay tribute to the military personnel who served over 319 years and learn more about the military tradition that is part of the municipality's identity.

This beach in the Algarve is among the cleanest in the world and to get there you have to take a boat

The Beach of Cabanas de Tavira, in the Algarve, was highlighted in 2025 as one of the cleanest in the world, accessible only by boat from the quay on Avenida Ria Formosa, in the center of the town, on a journey of less than five minutes to the island. With about seven kilometres in length, the beach is part of the Ria Formosa Natural Park and maintains the Blue Flag, a distinction that assesses criteria such as water quality, environmental management, safety and education. Maintaining environmental conditions involves work from local authorities and awareness campaigns from Taviraverde, a municipal company, against plastic pollution.
