Father Artur Vieira Marques passed away on Saturday, September 12, at the age of 82. The Archdiocese of Braga joined his family, the communities he served, and all who followed his journey, giving thanks to God for his life and priestly service and entrusting him to the mercy of the Father.
The priest was born on January 2, 1944, in the parish of Donim, in the municipality of Guimarães, and was ordained a priest on August 15, 1968, in Braga, by Bishop Francisco Maria da Silva. He began his ministry as co-adjutor vicar of Espinho in August 1968, later assuming the parish leadership of that community in the archdeaconry of Braga, until April 28, 2016.
Throughout his journey, Father Artur Vieira Marques was also parish priest of Santa Maria de Sobreposta, in the same archdeaconry, until July 19, 2015. He also served as archdiocesan spiritual director of the Convívios Fraternos youth pastoral movement and was a confessor at the Conciliar Seminary of Braga in the late eighties.
The funeral Mass, presided over by the Archbishop of Braga, Archbishop José Cordeiro, is celebrated on Tuesday, September 15, at 4:00 PM, at the Parish Church of Divino Salvador in Donim, in the Archdeaconry of Guimarães and Vizela.
