From over 600 candidates to seven winners: Portugal has new Wonders

TVI Notícias13 September 2026 at 15:02

More than 600 candidates were evaluated and only seven were chosen as winners in the contest of the new 7 Wonders of Portugal. The choice was made through public voting, which decided the winners through this selection process. The seven winners represent the best among all the candidates competing for this distinction.

The announcement of the winners took place during a gala broadcast live by TVI. The event was the official moment when the names of the seven winners of this election were revealed. The live broadcast allowed the public to follow the final decision in real time.

This initiative marks the return of the contest 20 years after the election of the first 7 Wonders of Portugal. This is a re-edition of a previous project that took place two decades before. This new edition updates and once again recognizes the country's cultural and heritage values.

Why this matters

This election allows Portuguese people to rediscover and value the national cultural and tourist heritage, with potential impact on tourism and the local economy of the winners. It is a community event that connects citizens to a Portuguese cultural tradition started 20 years ago.
