The school year officially started last Friday, but hundreds of students remain without a place in public schools. Schools refused to accept enrollments even when they had available places, a situation that the Minister of Education classified as "very serious" and which he promises to investigate, stating that "obviously, the director will have to explain that".
A group of parents decided to take the case to court. In the group created by Rui Boavida, one of the parents with unplaced students, there are already 40 families and the number continues to increase. The reported cases cover various parts of the country, including Greater Lisbon, the Algarve, Vila Nova de Gaia, Évora and Viseu.
