The 45-year-old farmhand suspected of killing the couple he worked for in Lagos was placed in preventive detention, after the first judicial interrogation held on Saturday, September 12. The decision was made by the criminal investigation judge of Portimão, being the most severe coercive measure applied to the suspect, who was arrested in the early hours of the same day by the Criminal Investigation Department of Portimão of the Judicial Police.
The foreign national is strongly suspected of two counts of qualified homicide and corpse desecration. The victims were a 79-year-old man and a 62-year-old woman, foreign businesspeople in the healthcare sector who had been living in Portugal for several years.
According to the PJ, the crimes occurred at the couple's home in Lagos, in a context of extreme violence. The victims were beaten with a blunt object, suffering severe injuries that caused their death. The suspect then dragged the bodies to a water cistern on the property to hide them and used chemical products to try to decompose them. The removal of the corpses required a complex operation with the collaboration of the Lagos Firefighters.
When located by the GNR in the vicinity of the property, the suspect had with him quite a bit of money and valuable objects presumably belonging to the victims. The detainee had no known criminal record. The investigation continues to clarify the motive for the homicides and the possible existence of other involved parties.
