The family agreement that took two generations to the ethnographic parade
Beatriz Gomes, 18 years old, and her cousin Camila Freitas, 8 years old, bought the regional costumes and aunt Glória Rodrigues, 57 years old, returned to participate in the ethnographic parade of the Feiras Novas to parade with them. The deal was made between the three and it was kept. From the parish of Gemieira, they ended up walking together in the regional costume parade, a debut for both cousins.
Beatriz says that when she was little she didn't care about any of this, but her aunt encouraged her. Now she is considering the possibility of joining a folk group in the future, like Glória, who used to be in folk groups. The aunt commented that she only participated this year because her nieces insisted a lot, and that for her the insistence of the two has a greater meaning: it is important to maintain traditions.
Camila, the youngest, grew up seeing these traditions and, according to her aunt, she has always liked these things. The girl says she finds it fun to participate in the parade. A few meters behind, Camila's mother, Catarina, was also parading, but as a lady-in-waiting. Under the afternoon heat, aunt and nieces fulfilled the agreement, with Beatriz and Camila making their debut in the parade alongside the one who convinced them to wear the costume.
