The Feiras Novas in Limbas hosted a night of challenge songs animated by the group Amigos do Cachadinha. The event took place at Expolima, where the audience gathered around tables, glasses of green wine and ham, to watch the show that lasted for hours.
The singers threw challenges at each other, with the responses almost always coming immediately, in the form of improvised quatrains. The verses changed subject at the rhythm of laughter and applause, singing now about those in the audience, now about the singers themselves, with provocation serving as raw material for new compositions.
Those who arrived early got a seat, while those who arrived later had to stand, but few wanted to miss what was happening on stage. The night was marked by call-and-response and improvisation, characteristic elements of this Trás-os-Montes musical tradition.
