Ivo Ivanov, CEO of DE-CIX, warned in anticipation of the Atlantic Convergence summit, in Lisbon, about European technological dependence on the United States and defended the need to create true technological autonomy on the continent. According to Ivanov, the simple fact of hosting servers within European borders does not equate to achieving digital sovereignty.
Ivanov placed Portugal, and Sines specifically, on the route to relieving European energy saturation, suggesting that the country's geographic location can play a strategic role in European digital infrastructure.
The CEO of DE-CIX also revealed that artificial intelligence spends approximately one-third of its time waiting for the network, underscoring the importance of investing in more efficient connectivity infrastructures to optimize the performance of AI technologies.
