The Institute of Registries and Notary (IRN) announced temporary restrictions on the Online Vehicle service that extend until September 20. The restrictions began on September 11 and result from the transition to a new technological platform for vehicle registration.
During this period, registration requests and the Single Vehicle Document (DUA) will be unavailable for vehicles with license plates from series AA-00-00 to ZZ-99-99, as well as license plates between 00-00-AA and 99-99-KZ. This affects vehicles of different ages, as Portugal has used different license plate formats over the years.
The IRN clarifies that online services remain available for license plates between 00-00-LA and 99-99-ZZ, as well as for the currently used series, between AA-00-AA and ZZ-99-ZZ. Users affected by the restrictions are not prevented from handling their matters and can use in-person services at the registries with vehicle jurisdiction.
The limitation does not mean that license plates are cancelled, suspended, or that vehicles can no longer circulate. It is only a temporary restriction of online services. The IRN recommends that citizens and professionals plan ahead for the use of digital services during this transition period.
