After the law making Ingleses an official neighborhood of Rio de Janeiro was sanctioned, discussion about the city's territorial boundaries has reignited. Currently, there are eight complementary bill projects filed with the City Council proposing the creation or delimitation of new neighborhoods in the city.
Four of these projects are in the North Zone: Vila Pompeia, Buriti Congonhas, Serrinha, and Cajueiro. Additionally, there are projects in progress to create the neighborhoods of Rio das Pedras and Merck in the Southwest Zone, and Arpoador in the South Zone.
Councilwoman Rosa Fernandes intends to present a proposal to transform Bairro Araújo, located between Irajá and Vista Alegre, into an official territorial unit, further expanding the list of projects under discussion.
With the recent officialization of Ingleses as a neighborhood, the expectation is that Rio de Janeiro's map will take on new contours, with the possible creation of several new neighborhoods in different zones of the city.
