Lisbon Prison will start closing doors from October onwards, beginning a gradual process of transferring inmates currently held in this prison establishment. The announcement was made by the Secretary of State for Justice, Gonçalo da Cunha Pires, who detailed the transition plan.
According to the official, Wing E will be the first structure to close as part of this process. This decision marks the beginning of a broader plan to reorganize the prison system in the Lisbon region.
About 250 inmates will be transferred to three different prison establishments. This transfer represents a significant number of inmates who will need to be redistributed throughout the national prison system.
