The 2024 edition of Rock in Rio celebrated K-pop this Friday (11), with the group Stray Kids as the main act on the Mundo Stage. The event took place at the City of Rock, set up at the Olympic Park, in Barra da Tijuca, Southwest Zone of Rio de Janeiro. The lightsticks, luminous wands that became a craze among fans, were one of the most seen accessories among the audience present.
Each K-pop group has its own symbol that appears on the lightsticks, allowing fans to easily identify which artist each person supports. The light wands can be seen blinking rapidly or emitting consistent focal points of light, creating a striking visual effect in the audience.
The lightsticks are not cheap accessories. Research shows prices ranging from R$250 to R$500 on different sales websites. International relations student Gabriela Lucas, 20 years old, paid R$600 for hers, a value above the average found on the market.
Gabriela revealed that she has been using the lightstick since 2024 at events related to the Korean genre and that she did not buy it specifically for Rock in Rio. When asked about the amount spent, she commented that she considers this type of investment normal for a true fan and that, having paid a significant value, she couldn't leave the accessory behind at the festival.
