Jornal Económico11 September 2026 at 23:00

Banco Comercial Português (BCP) acquired, between September 7 and 11, an additional 19.3 million own shares under its share buyback program, for an investment of approximately 22.4 million euros. The purchases were made on Euronext Lisbon through J.P. Morgan SE, at a weighted average price of 1.1620 euros per share. The most active day was Tuesday, September 9, with 5.2 million shares purchased, while on Friday the bank paid the highest average price of the week, at 1.1843 euros, coinciding with BCP's close at its all-time high.

With these acquisitions, BCP now holds 194.2 million own shares, representing 1.31% of its share capital, for a total value of 208.8 million euros. This means that, approximately three and a half months after the program started, the bank has already executed 51.3% of the maximum authorized amount of 407 million euros.

The buyback program was approved in May and runs from June 4 to December 4, 2026, and may be terminated early if the maximum number of shares or the monetary amount is reached. This week's purchases represented between 7.38% and 8.98% of the total volume of each session on Euronext Lisbon.

About 95% of natural gas imported by Portugal in 2025 arrived through the Sines terminal, with Nigeria (50%), the United States (43%) and Russia (7%) as the main countries of origin, according to a report by ERSE. Forty-six LNG carrier unloadings were carried out at the terminal, seven fewer than in 2024, and 7,546 tankers were supplied. Portugal intends to end Russian LNG imports by early 2027, under European rules, with only one long-term contract with the Spanish company Naturgy. The remaining 5% of gas entered via pipeline through the connections with the Spanish network. The ERSE report also concludes that there was an overall improvement in the performance of gas networks in 2025, with a reduction in the number and duration of supply interruptions.
