Christine Lagarde, president of the European Central Bank, and Miranda Sarmento, Portuguese finance minister, participated together in the closing of the summer university of Novo Banco's owner, the French banking group BPCE. The event consisted of the annual gathering of BPCE group's executives, held in France.
Also on the same panel was Nicolas Namias, CEO of BPCE, who together with Lagarde and Miranda Sarmento was present at the closing of this banking training and networking event.
During the meeting, various topics were addressed, including sovereignty issues, geopolitics, and European banking consolidation, themes that have been dominating the continental financial sector's agenda.
The BPCE group is the owner of Novo Banco through its majority stake, which explains the presence of Portuguese figures at this French banking system event.
