In the offensive to win the evangelical vote, President Lula's campaign, from the PT, began distributing a "virtual saint card" aimed at religious voters among allies. The pieces ask evangelicals to use faith and reason in their choice and feature phrases such as "It is not a sin to vote for Lula", "My faith is in Christ, my vote is for Lula" and "Evangelicals with Lula and Alckmin".
Campaign interlocutors told CBN that the strategy seeks to broaden dialogue with this electorate and repeat an initiative adopted by the PT in 2022, when former President Jair Bolsonaro had the majority in polls among evangelicals, as did his son and presidential candidate, Flavio Bolsonaro.
Since the beginning of September, evangelical movements and entities have begun declaring public support for Lula's re-election. Among them are the Progressive Evangelical Movement and the Unified Evangelical Committee, which released a letter defending the autonomy of the secular state.
