The candidate for governor of Rio de Janeiro by the PSD, Eduardo Paes, was interviewed this Friday by GLOBO, Extra, Valor and CBN. The Q&A session was conducted by CBN Rio presenters Bianca Santos and Leandro Resende, by the political editor of GLOBO and Extra newspapers Thiago Prado, by columnist Bernardo Mello Franco, and by Francisco Góes, head of the Valor bureau in Rio. The interview started at 10:30 a.m. and lasted an hour and a half.

During the Q&A session, Paes promised to end political influence in the state's public security. He also criticized what he called President Jair Bolsonaro's "rotten finger" in Rio and launched attacks on adversary Douglas Ruas, calling him a "daddy's boy."

The PSD candidate also commented on his previous political relationships, stating that his connection to former governor Sérgio Cabral is different from the relationship that current governor Cláudio Castro has with Douglas Ruas, his own ally.

This Q&A session is part of a series of interviews with candidates for governor of Rio. The series opened on Tuesday with candidate Douglas Ruas, followed by William Siri on Wednesday and Anthony Garotinho on Thursday. Each Q&A session lasts an hour and a half.

APA and ICNF restructuring 'behind closed doors'

Quercus expresses great concern regarding the restructuring of APA and ICNF, which according to the Minister of Environment and Energy is "practically ready", without environmental organizations having been consulted or received a response to a meeting request sent four months ago. The environmental association warns of the risks of a "deep simplification of licensing processes" and a focus on "post-authorization enforcement" rather than prevention, fears the centralization of decision-making power in national structures to the detriment of regional technical decisions, and reiterates the request for dialogue with the ministry.
