European 7-million project for circular economy launches in Vila Verde

Braga TV11 September 2026 at 22:00

A European project of approximately seven million euros will be presented on Monday in Vila Verde, with the objective of accelerating the adoption of circular economy and remanufacturing models in European industry. The project, called "Remanufacturing-X", is coordinated in Portugal by NOVA FCT.

The project is funded by the Horizon Europe program and will have a duration of 36 months. This initiative aims to transform industrial production models in Europe, promoting more sustainable practices through remanufacturing, which consists of recovering and reusing products and components to give them a new life.

The presentation takes place in Vila Verde, a Portuguese municipality that hosts this large-scale European initiative. The event marks the formal launch of a consortium that brings together partners from various European countries to work on the transition to a more circular economy.

Food VAT: reform rather than patch up

The article defends a deep reform of food VAT instead of patchwork solutions, arguing that food is a basic need and not a luxury, and should therefore be treated differently by fiscal policy. The text warns that the current food VAT system is too complex and unfair, penalizing the most vulnerable consumers and contributing to inequality in access to healthy food. Proponents of this reform propose a simplification of rates and greater transparency in the application of the tax, ensuring that the tax burden does not compromise the food quality of Portuguese families.

Failing to comply with the law

European textile recyclers are facing difficulties not due to poor management, but because European law already imposes the obligation of textile recycling within a three-year timeframe, without the necessary funding to meet this requirement being available, creating a gap between the regulation and the promised financial resources.
