The article defends a deep reform of food VAT instead of patchwork solutions, arguing that food is a basic need and not a luxury, and should therefore be treated differently by fiscal policy. Proponents of this reform propose a simplification of rates and greater transparency in the application of the tax, ensuring that the tax burden does not compromise the food quality of Portuguese families.
