More than 21,000 doctoral researchers apply for EU fellowships

More than 21,000 doctoral researchers submitted applications for European Union fellowships through the Marie Skłodowska-Curie postdoctoral call. The total number of applications reached 21,627, representing significant growth in demand for European research funding.

This figure represents a 26.7% increase compared to the number of applications recorded in 2025, thus marking a new record in interest in the programme. The growing demand reflects the attractiveness of European fellowships for early-career researchers.

The funding available for this call amounts to 399 million euros, enabling the support of a considerable number of postdoctoral research projects across various scientific fields. The Marie Skłodowska-Curie programme is one of the EU's main instruments for promoting mobility and excellence in European research.

Banco Comercial Português (BCP) purchased, between September 7 and 11, an additional 19.3 million own shares under its share buyback program, for an investment of approximately 22.4 million euros. With these acquisitions, BCP now holds 194.2 million own shares, equivalent to 1.31% of share capital, for a total value of 208.8 million euros, representing 51.3% of the maximum authorized amount of 407 million euros, almost three and a half months after the start of the program.
