The BPCE Group's Summer University is an annual internal strategic event that brings together top management, executives, and managers from the various entities of the French banking group, including Banque Populaire, Caisse d'Épargne, Natixis, Banque Palatine, and Oney. The event was launched upon the group's creation in 2009 and serves to align management with strategic orientations and address challenges in the banking sector.
This year, the group led by Nicolas Namias chose the theme "acceleration" of transformation. What made the event unprecedented was the simultaneous presence of the President of the European Central Bank, Christine Lagarde, and the Portuguese Minister of Finance, Joaquim Miranda Sarmento, at the French banking group's executive meeting, as reported by the CEO of Natixis in Portugal on his LinkedIn page.
Patrick Pouyanné, CEO of TotalEnergies, also participated, and topics covered included European sovereignty, Capital Markets Union, digital euro, payments, financing major transitions, defense, geopolitics, and banking consolidation. Etienne Huret, CEO of Natixis in Portugal, shared that "a message emerged" that the group is strong and that this is the moment to accelerate and make BPCE a key player in European sovereignty.
