The port of Sines, in Portugal, received 95% of the liquefied natural gas (LNG) imported by the country during the year 2025. This information was revealed through a document released this Friday, which details the unloading operations at the country's main gas terminal.
According to the data presented, Nigeria was responsible for 50% of the unloading operations in Sines, consolidating itself as the main gas supplier for Portugal through this terminal. The United States occupied second position, with a share of 43% of the operations.
Russia, despite only representing 7% of the unloading operations, sent three ships with gas cargo to Sines during the period under analysis. This data comes in the context of European discussions on diversifying energy sources following the conflict in Ukraine.
The document now released reveals the structure of Portugal's gas imports, highlighting the strong dependence on the Sines terminal and the predominance of suppliers such as Nigeria and the United States in the country's energy supply.
