Sines received 95% of the gas that entered Portugal and three Russian ships in 2025

SAPO Notícias11 September 2026 at 20:29

About 95% of the gas that entered Portugal during the year 2025 arrived through the Sines terminal, according to data from the Energy Services Regulatory Entity (ERSE). This terminal thus became the main entry point for natural gas in the country during the period under analysis.

The main countries of origin of gas imported by Portugal were Nigeria, the United States and Russia. ERSE also identified three Russian ships that transported gas to Portugal in 2025.

The ERSE report highlights Portugal's dependence on the Sines terminal for national energy supply, with almost all gas passing through this infrastructure. The presence of Russian ships among gas suppliers reflects the continuity of commercial relations in the energy sector, despite the geopolitical context.
