The Regional Electoral Court of Rio de Janeiro barred on Friday the candidacy of João Drummond, of the PRD, for state deputy. He is the grandson of illegal lottery boss Luizinho Drummond, which weighed in the Court's decision.
With this decision, the total number of candidates who had their registrations denied by the TRE-RJ in these elections reached seven. All were rejected due to suspicions or evidence of ties to criminal organizations.
The court analyzed the links pointed out by the Electoral Public Ministry with criminal gangs, illegal gambling, or other illegal groups. The decisions follow a pattern of rejection of candidacies with proximity to organized crime in the state.
In addition to João Drummond, candidacies were also barred for Mariana de Souza (PP), Val Ceasa (PRD), Renato Machado, and Diego Alba (PSDB), among other candidates still mentioned in the decision.
