The Professional Journalist Card Commission expressed itself strongly against the presence of representatives of political power on the Consultative Council of the news agency Lusíada/Lusa.
The CCPJ argues that the composition of the Consultative Council must guarantee the agency's independence from political power, considering that the presence of political representatives would compromise the objectivity and credibility of the information.
According to the Commission, the agency should be subject to external scrutiny of its activities and its bodies, with this scrutiny being carried out by the Assembly of the Republic, the Portuguese parliament.
This position emerges in the context of a broader debate about the governance and editorial independence of public news agencies in Portugal.
