The prefecture of Teresina announced the acquisition of 96 new buses for the city, discarding the holding of a new bidding process for public transportation. With this measure, the capital's bus fleet should go from the current 213 vehicles to 278.
The new vehicles were acquired on an urgent basis by the municipal executive branch. The decision not to hold a new bidding process was justified by the immediate need to expand the city's transportation system capacity.
One of the main characteristics of the new implemented model will be the variation in the size of the buses according to the demand of each line. Thus, lines with higher traffic will receive larger vehicles, while routes with fewer passengers will use smaller buses.
In addition to the new buses, the prefecture also announced that 500 new bus stops will be put out to bid in the city, expanding the infrastructure available for public transportation users.
