See what rose the most and what fell the most in August's IPCA, which dropped 0.32%

The Broad Consumer Price Index (IPCA), the country's official inflation index, fell 0.32% in August, as reported by IBGE on Friday (the 11th). It was the biggest deflation recorded since 2022. The main factors that pulled the index down this year were electricity bills and food.

Among the items that fell the most, residential electricity had the biggest negative contribution, with a drop of 7.63% and an impact of -0.33 percentage point. Following were airline tickets (-13.17%), potatoes (-19.89%), tomatoes (-10.94%) and gasoline (-0.59%).

On the other end, cigarettes were the item with the biggest increase, rising 19.59% and contributing 0.11 percentage point to the overall variation. Car repair also registered an increase, with a rise of 1.35% and an impact of 0.02 percentage point.
