The trial of two police officers from the Rato police station accused of torture crimes began today. The officers will answer for alleged mistreatment practiced against people who had been detained.
According to the Public Prosecutor's indictment, the crimes allegedly occurred between July 2024 and March 2025. During this period, the two police officers allegedly assaulted the detainees with punches, slaps, and rifle butt strikes to the head.
The authorities also point out that the officers allegedly filmed and photographed some of these assaults, as well as the respective victims. These images are part of the case now being tried.
The trial is taking place in a Lisbon court, where the two police officers will be heard about the accusations against them.
