There is a space in northern Portugal that, during the summer months, has become known as the "Portuguese Bali." The place is called Bamboo & Coconut and is located on the banks of the Cávado river, in Amares, in the Braga district, less than an hour from Porto. With palm trees, bamboo, lounge chairs, and a riverside setting, the space has attracted an increasing number of visitors looking for a different destination to rest, eat, and drink cocktails.
Bamboo & Coconut is part of Quinta Lago dos Cisnes and was founded in 1993 as a small support bar by the river. Over the years, the concept grew and transformed into a complete summer space, with areas for rest, dining, and entertainment. One particular feature is that most structures are dismantled at the end of the beach season, due to winter floods, and reinstalled before the following summer, also allowing for decoration renewal and the introduction of new features.
The space includes the Bamboo Lounge, where cocktails, sangrias, snacks, and small plates are served, and the restaurant The Coconut House, with meat, fish, pasta, and Mediterranean-inspired dishes. Throughout the season, sessions with DJs, live music, yoga and pilates classes, workshops, and brunches take place. There is also the Palm Boutique, dedicated to fashion, décor, and lifestyle items.
Despite being located by the Cávado river, Bamboo & Coconut does not operate as a supervised river beach, with no lifeguards on duty. Entry may be subject to a minimum consumption of up to 15 euros, subsequently deducted from expenses. Pets are allowed, provided they are accompanied and on a leash.
