Rower Diogo Gonçalves, from Pereira, took stock of the 2025/26 season on social media, classifying it as an "incredible" season. Throughout the season, the athlete represented Portugal in various international competitions in the elite of world rowing.
During the season, Diogo Gonçalves participated in several stages of the World Rowing Cups, which are part of the international circuit of the sport. The Portuguese rower was also present at the Henley Royal Regatta, one of the most prestigious events in the world rowing calendar.
The highlight of the Pereirense athlete's season was the conquest of the Under-23 world title, an achievement that represented the peak of his sporting season. This result demonstrated the progression of the Portuguese rower from the development categories to the senior elite.
However, Diogo Gonçalves did not hide his frustration with the outcome of the Senior World Championship, a competition that marks the passage to the absolute elite of the sport. Despite the Under-23 title, the rower considered that the result obtained in the senior competition fell short of his expectations for the season.
